A 42-year-old foreign national was killed in a road accident on the Weligama coastal road on Friday night, police said.
The victim was identified as a Slovakian national who was walking along the road when he was struck by a jeep travelling from Matara towards Galle.
Police said the man sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Walana Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon admission.
The driver of the jeep involved in the accident has been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
