Nobel Peace Prize laureate and Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado has said she would like to share her Nobel Prize with U.S. President Donald Trump, prompting a response from the Norwegian Nobel Committee.

In a statement issued on the 9th, the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which administers the Nobel Peace Prize, said that once a Nobel Prize has been announced, it cannot be revoked, shared or transferred to another individual.

“Once announced, the decision remains permanent,” the committee said.

The committee added that it does not, as a matter of principle, comment on statements or actions taken by Nobel Peace Prize laureates after receiving the award. However, it noted that this does not mean the committee ignores their subsequent conduct.

“While the committee may not officially express concern or praise, it continues to closely monitor laureates’ activities,” the statement said.

Although the committee did not explicitly mention Machado by name or explain the background to its statement, it was widely interpreted as a response to her recent remarks.

In an earlier interview with Fox News, Machado praised President Trump and expressed her wish to share the Nobel Prize with him. “On behalf of the Venezuelan people, I would like to express how grateful we are for Trump’s courageous mission,” she said, adding that she would like to share the award with him.

President Trump later responded by saying that if such an offer were made, it would be “a great honor.” (NewsWire)
