
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of India to construct a four‑storey medical ward complex at the Mullaitivu District General Hospital.
The Mullaitivu District General Hospital, the main healthcare institution serving the district and surrounding areas, currently comprises eight specialized units providing inpatient treatment services with a total bed capacity of 195.
The new ward complex is part of ongoing efforts to upgrade major hospitals into tertiary care institutions capable of delivering high‑quality continuous care services at low patient cost.
The Government of India has agreed to provide a financial grant of Rs. 600 million for the construction.
The Cabinet approval for the proposal presented by the Minister of Health, allows the project to proceed utilizing this grant and formalizes cooperation through the Memorandum of Understanding. (Newswire)
