A Beat Officer has been arrested by officials of the Bribery Commission on charges of soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 30,000 and a bottle of liquor.
The arrest was made following a complaint lodged by a resident of the Hulannuge area.
According to the complaint, the officer had accepted the bribe in order to refrain from filing legal action against cultivation carried out on four acres of land belonging to the complainant, part of which falls within the Nelum Wewa Reserve.
The suspect, who was arrested at his office yesterday, is scheduled to be produced before the Magistrate’s Court. (Newswire)
