New contracts to be awarded for currency exchange counters at BIA

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the awarding of contracts to operate foreign currency exchange counters at the newly developed arrivals terminal of Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake.

As part of the airport’s ongoing redevelopment efforts, currency exchange counters have been relocated within the customs area to better serve arriving passengers.

Previous contractual agreements were terminated due to the inability to agree on new monthly fees for the updated locations, the government said.

Subsequently, Airports and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited initiated a limited competitive bidding process, inviting proposals from institutions licensed by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

Based on the recommendations of the High-Level Standing Procurement Committee, contracts were awarded for a period of three years as follows:

Counter No. 04 – to the Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC for a sum of rupees million 972.77 + with applicable taxes

Counter No. 05 – to the Bank of Ceylon for a sum of rupees million 877.14 + with applicable taxes

Counter No. 06 – to the Thomas Cook Lanka (Ptv.) Limited for a sum of rupees million 720.79 + with applicable taxes

Counter No. 07 – to the Sampath Bank PLC for a sum of rupees million 646.64 + with applicable taxes

Counter No. 08 – to the People’s Bank for a sum of rupees million 631.61 + with applicable taxes. (Newswire)
