
A retired Navy Medical Assistant has been arrested for soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs. 200,000.
According to a complaint made by a resident of the Wellawatta area, the suspect had demanded Rs. 300,000 to arrange the admission of the complainant’s elder daughter to a prominent girls’ school in Colombo, for Grade One in 2026.
The Bribery Commission states that, out of this, he had already accepted Rs. 100,000 in three installments and later solicited and received Rs. 200,000.
Based on this complaint, officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption arrested the retired Navy Medical Assistant yesterday (13 Jan) at around 7.45 pm in Thimbirigasyaya, Colombo.
The arrested suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court. (Newswire)
