The Sri Lanka Navy arrested three suspects along with a dinghy and 237 pigeons during a search operation in the Kachchativu sea area in Jaffna yesterday (14 Jan), thwarting an attempted smuggling racket.
Naval personnel from the Kachchativu Detachment under SLNS Wasaba of the Northern Naval Command mounted the operation after detecting a suspicious dinghy in the area.
The vessel was seized with 237 pigeons on board, and the three suspects were taken into custody in connection with the smuggling act.
The suspects, identified as residents of Delft Island aged between 25 and 41, together with the birds and the dinghy, were handed over to the Delft Police Station for legal action. (Newswire)
