The government will take steps to quickly ensure justice for Grade 6 students who were affected by the postponement of education reforms, Education Minister and Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya said.
She made these remarks during a meeting held today (16) at the SEDEC Auditorium in Madampe with education officials and school principals of the Chilaw Education Zone, to brief them on the future course of education reforms.
The Prime Minister said education was identified as a key sector requiring transformative change when the government assumed office, noting that resistance from a minority was possible during such reforms. However, she stressed that the new education reforms would be implemented within a child protection policy framework.
She also said the highest budget allocation for vocational education had been made through the reforms, while projects are already underway to address digital inequality and infrastructure gaps among schools.
Prime Minister Amarasuriya said that public acceptance and the commitment of education authorities were crucial in taking the country’s education system forward through meaningful transformation. (Newswire)
