Sri Lanka Railways has decided to resume several train services, including the Night Mail trains to Trincomalee and Batticaloa, which were suspended due to Cyclone Ditwah.
Accordingly, the Night Mail train operating between Colombo Fort and Trincomalee is scheduled to resume services from January 20. The Pulathisi Intercity Express running between Colombo Fort and Batticaloa will also resume daily operations from the same date.
Sri Lanka Railways further said that the Udaya Devi train service will also be reinstated following the easing of disaster conditions, in line with a revised operating schedule.
Meanwhile, repair work on the Northern Railway Line, which was damaged by the cyclone, is set to commence on January 19 with financial assistance from the Government of India.
Due to these reconstruction activities, train services will be limited to Colombo Fort–Mahawa until further notice.
Sri Lanka Railways said details regarding the resumption of full services after the completion of repairs will be announced in due course.
