The Sri Lanka Army has been able to save approximately Rs. 18 million annually following the induction of 20 new SUVs donated by the Indian Army.

The vehicles were officially handed over by Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi during his recent visit to Sri Lanka, symbolising the strong bilateral ties between the two armies.

According to the Sri Lanka Army, the newly inducted jeeps are being used for both administrative and field operations. Previously, the Army had been hiring vehicles from the private sector on a rental basis, incurring a monthly cost of around Rs. 1.5 million.

With the addition of these new vehicles to its fleet, the Army has phased out the rented vehicles, resulting in monthly savings of Rs. 1.5 million and an annual saving exceeding Rs. 18 million in government expenditure. (Newswire)
