Batter Kusal Janith Perera and fast bowler Nuwan Tushara have been dropped from Sri Lanka’s T20I squad for the upcoming series against England, a media report said, raising questions over their chances of making the national side for the T20 World Cup.
According to a report published by the Sunday Times, the omission of the two players from the England series could indicate that they are unlikely to be part of Sri Lanka’s World Cup plans.
Sri Lanka have named a 16-man squad for the T20I series, led by captain Dasun Shanaka, as the team continues its preparations for the global tournament.
The selected squad is: Dasun Shanaka (captain), Pathum Nissanka, Kamil Mishara, Kusal Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Janith Liyanage, Kamindu Mendis, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Dushan Hemantha, Traveen Mathew, Dushmantha Chameera, Matheesha Pathirana and Eshan Malinga.
Meanwhile, Dhananjaya de Silva, who was recalled to the T20I side for the recent series against Pakistan, has also been named in Sri Lanka’s ODI squad for the upcoming England series, underlining his return to favour across formats.
Sri Lanka Cricket has not issued an official statement on the reasons for the exclusions or on World Cup selection plans. (Newswire)
