
Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Shobini Gunasekera, presented her Letters of Credence to Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Grand Kremlin Palace in Moscow, marking the formal commencement of her diplomatic duties.
The ceremony was conducted in accordance with established diplomatic protocol. President Putin was accompanied by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Foreign Policy Adviser Yury Ushakov.
Following the presentation, President Putin addressed ambassadors from 32 countries who took part in the ceremony, reaffirming Russia’s readiness to engage constructively with partner nations and to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
During an informal interaction after the ceremony, Ambassador Gunasekera conveyed greetings from President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka and the people of Sri Lanka to President Putin and the people of the Russian Federation. She also expressed Sri Lanka’s appreciation for the support and solidarity extended by Russia following the impact of Cyclone Ditwah.
The ambassador underscored Sri Lanka’s intention to renew and further strengthen bilateral relations, building on the longstanding friendship and cooperation between the two countries. President Putin acknowledged these sentiments and reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to enhancing ties with Sri Lanka.
