The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has ended the doctors’ strike that had been launched in all hospitals in the Eastern Province, as of 2 pm today (22 Jan).
The strike had been initiated, demanding the removal of the Medical Superintendent of the Akkaraipattu Base Hospital, citing administrative and financial irregularities, and the appointment of another director to the post.
Accordingly, the Medical Superintendent in question has now been immediately removed from the position, with the relevant letter issued by the Secretary to the Ministry of Health, leading to the conclusion of the strike.
The GMOA stated that patient care services in all hospitals across the Eastern Province have now resumed normal operations. (Newswire)
