Rebuilding Sri Lanka Fund surpasses Rs. 8.5B with local and global support

The Finance Ministry has announced that contributions to the Rebuilding Sri Lanka Fund, set up to support recovery efforts after Cyclone Ditwah, have surpassed Rs. 8.5 billion, reflecting strong support from local businesses and citizens.

Providing an update on the current status of the Rebuilding Sri Lanka Fund, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Harshana Suriyapperuma, further noted that foreign donations have also increased, with the total amount surpassing USD 9.49 million.

Among the donor countries, the United States has contributed the highest amount, exceeding Rs. 1 billion.

In addition, Australia, China, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bhutan, Italy, and South Korea were identified as the top ten countries providing financial assistance.

He added that beyond these nations, a total of 47 foreign countries have extended aid to Sri Lanka for recovery after the disaster.

Meanwhile, Suriyapperuma pointed out that Sri Lanka Customs has also received a large volume of goods as aid.

He stated that the total value of goods received as aid has already exceeded Rs. 2.3 billion. (Newswire)
