JPMorgan Chase, the world’s largest bank by market capitalisation, has agreed to acquire fintech firm WealthOS for an undisclosed sum, highlighting the growing global footprint of Sri Lankan-founded technology firms.

WealthOS, headquartered in the United Kingdom, was co-founded by Sri Lankan entrepreneurs Anton Padmasiri and Chamath Arambawela, and maintains a significant engineering and product team in Sri Lanka. Staff in both the UK and Sri Lanka are expected to join JPMorgan following the acquisition.

Announcing the deal, Padmasiri said WealthOS would become a key component of JPMorgan Chase’s international wealth ambitions. “For a company our size to be selected by an institution of JPMorgan’s calibre is validation that means a great deal to me personally and to everyone who helped build this,” he said.

Previously, WealthOS said it was Sri Lanka’s only B2B fintech SaaS firm and had launched the UK’s first cloud-native self-invested personal pension software. (Newswire)
