Scotland have confirmed their participation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup following an invitation from the International Cricket Council, with Cricket Scotland Chair Wilf Walsh saying the team is “willing and ready to go” for the global tournament in India.

In a statement, Walsh said he received a call from ICC Chair Jay Shah earlier in the day confirming Scotland would be invited to play in the tournament, and that he was pleased to accept on behalf of the team.

“We thank the ICC for this opportunity and look forward to competing with some of the best sides in the world in India in the coming weeks,” Walsh said.

Scotland were drafted into the tournament after Bangladesh declined to play its matches in India, citing security concerns and requesting venue changes. The ICC rejected the request, leading to Scotland being invited as the next eligible team based on rankings.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin in February, with matches set to be hosted in India and Sri Lanka. (Newswire)
