The Department of Railways has commenced simulator-based training for newly appointed train drivers, using a new facility established at the German Technical Training Institute in Ratmalana.
The training programme, which began today (Jan. 26), follows a €1.1 million investment and includes a Simulator Cabin, eight Training Desks, and six Observation Desks.
According to officials, the facility aims to improve training quality while significantly reducing the training period, which previously exceeded three years. The simulator system is expected to enhance practical skills and accelerate readiness for operational duties.
Deputy Minister of Transport Dr. Prasanna Gunasena was seen testing out the new facilities during the launch. (Newswire)
