Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka said the current government deserves credit for not engaging in corruption, but warned that efforts to prosecute alleged past corruption cases remain weak.

Speaking at an event, Fonseka said the government should receive full recognition for not engaging in theft, but stressed that this alone is not sufficient to meet public expectations.

“The people expected the old thieves to be caught, but we do not see that happening properly,” he said, referring to allegations of corruption against previous political figures.

Fonseka also criticised the opposition, accusing it of being filled with corrupt individuals. (Newswire)
