
A 52-year-old woman narrowly escaped serious injuries after a motorcycle was struck by a train at the Thandikulam railway crossing in Vavuniya on Tuesday, police said.
The woman, identified as Alfred Thilagawathi, was travelling on a motorcycle when she attempted to cross the railway line despite warning signals and an approaching train, police said. A train travelling from Jaffna to Vavuniya hit the rear of the motorcycle.
She was admitted to the Vavuniya Hospital for treatment and is reported to be out of danger. Police described the incident as a reckless act and warned motorists to strictly follow railway crossing signals.
