A councillor of the Kalutara Municipal Council has been arrested by Kalutara South police after allegedly assaulting an individual during a protest led by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Ajith P. Perera in Kalutara this afternoon (28).
The victim, a youth from Potupitiya, had stopped his motorcycle near the protest and said, “Are the rice-eating cows still there?” before being attacked. He later filed a complaint with police.
The councillor also lodged a complaint, claiming the victim disrupted the peaceful protest. The motorcyclist was released on police bail.
Ajith P. Perera told reporters he was not at the scene but acknowledged that the incident had been reported. Police are continuing investigations. (NewsWire)
