United States cricketer Aaron Jones has been charged with five breaches of the Anti-Corruption Codes of Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) and has been provisionally suspended from all cricket with immediate effect, the ICC said on Wednesday.
The charges relate primarily to alleged corrupt conduct during the Bim10 tournament in 2023–24, which falls under the jurisdiction of the CWI Anti-Corruption Code, with two additional charges linked to international matches under the ICC Code.
Jones, who was recently in Colombo with the United States team as part of preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, will now have to leave the squad pending the outcome of the disciplinary process.
The alleged offences include attempting to fix or improperly influence matches, failing to disclose approaches to engage in corrupt conduct, failing to cooperate with investigators, and obstructing the Anti-Corruption Unit’s investigation.
Jones has been given 14 days from Jan. 28 to respond to the charges. The ICC said it will not comment further while disciplinary proceedings are ongoing.
The case is part of a wider investigation, with further charges against other individuals expected. (Newswire)
