Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has visited the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre Singapore (HMGICS) as part of an ongoing study tour, examining advanced manufacturing technologies, electric vehicle production and smart industrial solutions.

The HMGICS facility, launched in 2023 following the COVID-19 pandemic, represents a multi-billion dollar investment and is designed as a research-driven development hub integrating robotics, automation and data-driven systems into manufacturing.

During the visit, Premadasa observed Hyundai’s electric vehicle production processes and the use of artificial intelligence and robotics in manufacturing, as well as applications for smart agriculture and sustainable industrial systems.

He described the initiative as an impressive model and said technology-driven investments aligned with his “SMART Sri Lanka” vision should be encouraged to support future-oriented national development.

Premadasa also stressed the importance of exposure to global best practices in shaping long-term national development strategies and policies, noting that innovation-led ecosystems play a key role in driving productivity, sustainability and resilience in a rapidly evolving global economy. (Newswire)
