SLPP denies claims actor “Ping Pong” named party organiser

A report claiming that actor Rajitha Hiran, popularly known as “Ping Pong,” has been appointed as the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) organiser for the Kesbewa electorate is false, SLPP Kesbewa chief organiser Ajith Naragala said.

In a statement, Naragala said the news circulating on social media regarding Hiran’s appointment was completely untrue and misleading.

He explained that a photograph of Hiran signing the visitors’ book at the opening of the SLPP Kesbewa office on January 29, held under the patronage of SLPP General Secretary and former MP Sagara Kariyawasam, had been misused to spread the false claim.

“Politicians, artists and intellectuals attended the event, and Rajitha Hiran was among the guests. A photo taken while he signed the visitors’ book has been circulated on social media along with a false claim that he was appointed as the Kesbewa organiser. This is entirely fake and untrue,” Naragala said.

He said he was deeply disappointed by the spread of such misinformation, describing it as a low-level attempt to discourage artists and public figures who support or engage with the party.

Naragala urged the public to rely on verified sources and avoid sharing unverified reports. (Newswire)
