
Sri Lanka Police have arrested a 28-year-old suspect for allegedly drugging victims he met via TikTok and stealing their money and gold jewellery, Boralesgamuwa Police said.
According to police, the suspect befriended a private bank employee through TikTok and arranged to meet him on January 19 at a restaurant in a major shopping complex in Colombo. Investigators said the suspect secretly administered sedative tablets to the victim, who later lost consciousness.
The suspect then took the victim to a hotel in the Boralesgamuwa area and stole his gold jewellery and withdrew Rs. 258,000 using the victim’s bank card before fleeing, police said.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim, police launched an investigation and arrested the suspect in the Pannipitiya area. Officers recovered a card-reading device, five sedative tablets and several currency notes from the suspect at the time of arrest.
Police said further questioning revealed the suspect had used a similar method to drug and rob another employee of a private company, stealing cash and jewellery worth more than Rs. 2 million from the two victims. (Newswire)
