Sri Lanka, Finland to sign MoU on political consultation mechanism

A proposal to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sri Lanka and Finland to establish a Political Consultation Mechanism aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, has been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries began in 1954, with 2026 marking the 72nd anniversary. Over the decades, the partnership has expanded across political, economic, social, cultural, and educational sectors.

The proposed MoU seeks to enhance cooperation in areas including politics, economy, education, environment, consular affairs, and culture, while also facilitating dialogue on regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest.

The resolution was presented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism. (Newswire)
