A father and his teenage son were killed in a road accident in the Akmeemana area on Thursday evening, police said.
The fatal collision occurred in Panagamuwa under the Akmeemana Police Division when a car exiting the Pinnaduwa Expressway interchange and travelling towards Galle collided with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. The motorcycle rider and two pillion passengers were injured and admitted to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, where the rider and one pillion passenger later died.
Police said the deceased were a 36-year-old father and his 16-year-old son from the same family, residents of the Walahanduwa area. The driver of the car involved in the accident has been arrested, and further investigations are underway.
In a separate incident, a 71-year-old pedestrian was killed after being struck by a motorcycle near Marawila town on the Paliyagoda–Puttalam road on the evening of February 5. Police said the motorcycle was travelling from Halawatha towards Wennappuwa when it hit the pedestrian while he was crossing the road.
The injured pedestrian was admitted to the Marawila Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The deceased was a resident of Talawakele. The motorcyclist involved has been taken into custody, and Marawila Police are conducting further investigations. (Newswire)
