A Colombo court on Friday ordered the release on bail of the elder daughter of former minister Keheliya Rambukwella, who was arrested by Sri Lanka’s anti-corruption authorities over alleged money laundering offences.
Chamithri Rambukwella was produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s chambers on Friday afternoon after being arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
After considering submissions made in court, the magistrate ordered that the suspect be released on two personal bail bonds of 5 million rupees each, a court official said.
She was arrested in connection with allegations that she aided and abetted the laundering of money allegedly earned unlawfully by her father during his tenure as a cabinet minister.
Investigations are continuing under the anti-corruption commission as part of a broader probe into alleged financial misconduct linked to the former minister. (Newswire)
