Sri Lanka Police says it will go ahead with its special security and traffic arrangements for the scheduled India–Pakistan T20 World Cup match in Colombo, despite the Pakistan government’s decision indicating it will not allow its team to play the fixture.

In a statement issued this morning, Sri Lanka Police said a comprehensive security and traffic plan will be implemented for three high-profile matches scheduled to be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Khettarama Road.

According to police, the Sri Lanka vs Ireland match on February 8, the India vs Pakistan match on February 15, and the Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe match on February 19 will all be conducted under special arrangements. On each match day, a special traffic plan will be enforced in and around the stadium, while dedicated shuttle transport services will be operated for spectators.

Police said a total of 1,500 officers, along with 600 traffic police personnel, have been deployed to ensure the safety and security of both local and foreign spectators attending the T20 World Cup matches in Colombo.

When contacted by Newswire, a senior police official said authorities are proceeding with the original plan as they have not received any formal notification confirming the cancellation of the India–Pakistan game.

A few days ago, Sri Lanka Cricket wrote to the Pakistan Cricket Board urging it to reconsider its decision, highlighting the significant economic losses Sri Lanka would face as all arrangements for the match had already been completed. The tourism and hotel sectors in Colombo have also been affected by cancellations following uncertainty over the fixture. (Newswire)
