An 11-year-old schoolgirl was killed on Thursday after being struck by a lorry while walking along the side of a road in Sri Lanka’s Ratnapura district, police said.
The accident occurred around midday in the Alapatha police division on the Kanadola–Ilukthanna road near a rubber estate, according to the Sri Lanka Police.
The child, a resident of the Aluketiya area, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Ratnapura Teaching Hospital, where she later died while receiving treatment.
The driver of the lorry has been taken into custody, police said, adding that further investigations are being carried out by the Alapatha Police. (Newswire)
