Sri Lanka’s anti-graft commission has decided to initiate an investigation into a complaint filed by Parliament’s suspended Deputy Secretary General Chaminda Kularatne against Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, the Sunday Times reported.

The newspaper said the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has also decided to probe a separate complaint lodged by an individual identified as R. Kannan, who has accused Kularatne of committing acts of corruption.

According to the report, Kannan has alleged that the procedure followed in appointing Kularatne as Deputy Secretary General of Parliament was improper and violated established processes.

The Sunday Times said both complaints were taken up for consideration at a meeting of the commission held on Thursday. Following deliberations, the commission instructed the Director General of CIABOC to commence formal investigations into both matters.

Neither Parliament nor the individuals concerned have publicly commented on the decision to launch the probes. (Newswire)
