The 14th Mahatma Gandhi Scholarship Award Ceremony, held under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Harini Amarasuriya, provided financial assistance to 300 Sri Lankan students who excelled in the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination.
Organised annually by the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the programme aims to support academically outstanding students and strengthen educational cooperation between Sri Lanka and India.
Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya emphasised that lasting change must begin within individuals, urging students to take leadership in shaping the country they wish to build. She said transformation in society, the country, and the wider world depends on personal responsibility and commitment, adding that Sri Lanka’s education system is undergoing broader economic and social reforms.
She told students: “If we expect change, that change must begin with ourselves. Only by changing ourselves can we achieve the change we hope for. You must take leadership, and by standing up for that change, we can transform society, the country, and the world.”(NewsWire)
