Tilvin Silva meets Gujarat CM in India

The General Secretary of Sri Lanka’s Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Tilvin Silva, met with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Rajnikant Patel during an official visit to India on Monday.

The meeting took place in Gujarat as part of an India visit undertaken at the invitation of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), according to a statement issued by the JVP.

Discussions focused on Gujarat’s development trajectory, particularly its industrial growth, and explored potential areas of cooperation to support Sri Lanka’s industrial, tourism and apparel sectors, the statement said.

Silva also recalled Gujarat’s role in facilitating the bringing of sacred Buddha relics to Sri Lanka for public veneration, as well as the assistance extended to Sri Lanka following Cyclone Ditwah. He expressed gratitude to the Indian side for its support, the statement added.

Several Sri Lankan lawmakers and trade union representatives attended the meeting, including Members of Parliament Kitnan Selvaraj and Karunathilan Ilankumaran. Representatives from the JVP’s international and media units were also present. (Newswire)
