Sohara Buhari, a member of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) in the Colombo Municipal Council, has lost her council seat following disciplinary action taken by the party.
The action was initiated after she voted in favour of the National People’s Power (NNP) during the local council’s budget vote, defying party instructions.
SLMC General Secretary, President’s Counsel and MP Nizam Kariapper imposed disciplinary measures against her, and as a result, the Election Commissioner has confirmed her removal.
