Development work on the elephant underpass being constructed beneath the railway line at Kasikote, a location between Galgamuwa and Ambanpola known for frequent elephant crossings, has recommenced using new technological methods.
The project involves building a tunnel beneath the railway track to allow wild elephants to move safely from one side to the other, reducing the risk of train collisions and human-elephant conflict.
Construction of the tunnel had stalled halfway, and the government has now decided to complete it using new technology for greater efficiency.
Minister of Environment Dhammika Patabandi inspected the progress of the work during a site visit. (NewsWire)
