Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has criticised the Ceylon Electricity Board’s proposal to increase electricity tariffs by 13.56% for the second quarter, stating that it contradicts an election-stage pledge made by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to reduce electricity prices by 33%.
In a statement, Premadasa said the proposed revision was “once again in direct violation” of the promise made to the public, and questioned when the government would deliver on its commitment.
The Opposition Leader called on the government to clarify its position on electricity pricing and urged authorities to honour the pledge made during the election campaign. (Newswire)
