Fourteen former international cricket captains, including Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, have made a public appeal to the Government of Pakistan seeking fair and humane treatment for jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

According to reports in Indian and Australian media, the petition was led by Greg Chappell and delivered to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The signatories include Allan Border, Steve Waugh, Ian Chappell, Belinda Clark, Kim Hughes, Mike Atherton, Nasser Hussain, Mike Brearley, David Gower, Clive Lloyd and John Wright.

The group has reportedly urged authorities to ensure Khan’s well-being, access to medical treatment and due process while he remains in custody, citing concerns raised about his health condition.

Separately, Khan’s lawyers have told the Supreme Court of Pakistan that the former prime minister has only 15 percent vision remaining in his right eye after prison authorities allegedly failed to take timely action regarding his medical condition.

Imran Khan, who led Pakistan to the 1992 Cricket World Cup title before entering politics, has been imprisoned for more than two years in connection with multiple legal cases. The former captains are said to have highlighted his stature as a World Cup-winning leader and called for treatment consistent with international standards. (Newswire)
