Former First Lady Maithree Wickremesinghe, wife of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, has been summoned to appear before the Financial Crimes Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The CID informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court of the summons when the case against former president Wickremesinghe was taken up today.
The case alleges that former President Ranil Wickremesinghe misused approximately Rs. 16.9 million in public funds to attend Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe’s graduation ceremony in London during an official visit in late 2023.
Former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake, who was in remand prison over allegations of aiding the misuse of state funds by approving funds for the visit was today released on bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court. (Newswire)
