A Quazi Judicial Officer attached to the Koralaipattu (Central) Quazi Court in Valaichchenai and the Polonnaruwa (West) Quazi Court has been arrested on allegations of accepting a Rs. 5,000 bribe.

The arrest was made yesterday (Feb 17) by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) following a complaint lodged by a resident of Ottamavadi.

According to the commission, the complainant’s legally wedded wife had filed a maintenance case seeking financial support for their children.

An open warrant had been issued by the Magistrate’s Court against the complainant for failing to pay maintenance.

It is alleged that the suspect demanded and accepted Rs. 5,000 to provide a certified copy of the case report related to the maintenance case, which was required to have the open warrant recalled.

The suspect was arrested at the Quazi Court office located at Akbar Mosque Road, Valaichchenai. He is scheduled to be produced before the Valaichchenai Magistrate’s Court. (Newswire)
