Laugfs Gas says gas stocks have been ordered for delivery to the Colombo Port and that operational plans are in place to resume islandwide distribution once the shipment is received.

A gas shortage was reported over the past few days, with Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa raising the issue in Parliament and questioning Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe over the supply disruption and growing public concerns.

“This problem has arisen over the last two weeks as Laugfs Gas suspended its distribution. Consumers have therefore reacted and shifted to Litro Gas,” Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe said.

The minister said 1,500 metric tons of gas will be released today, tomorrow and Saturday to address the shortage.

Meanwhile, Laugfs Gas has been instructed to resolve its distribution issues immediately, he said, adding that the company is expected to receive its next gas shipment on Feb. 25. (Newswire)
