Sri Lanka appoints new Honorary Consul in Brisbane

Sri Lanka has appointed Nalin Perera as its new Honorary Consul in Brisbane, Queensland, with consular jurisdiction covering the state of Queensland.

Sri Lanka High Commissioner to Australia Yasoja Gunasekera formally handed over the Commission of Appointment to Perera on Feb. 19 at the Sri Lanka High Commission in Canberra.

Perera is a businessman in the healthcare sector and a philanthropist. He is active in professional forums within the Sri Lankan and Australian communities and in Buddhist associations in Australia, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Congratulating Perera on his appointment, High Commissioner Gunasekera stressed on the importance of strengthening Sri Lanka’s engagement with Queensland.

She said his extensive business connections in the state position him to support the High Commission’s efforts to promote trade, investment and tourism opportunities for Sri Lanka.

Perera said he looks forward to facilitating consular services to the approximately 20,000-member Sri Lankan community in Queensland, in coordination with the Sri Lanka High Commission in Canberra. (Newswire)
