Sri Lanka Police on Wednesday received technical equipment worth Rs. 556 million in what officials described as the largest such allocation in recent history aimed at strengthening law enforcement capacity.

The equipment was handed over by Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananda Wijepala to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya during a ceremony held at the ministry premises.

The consignment includes 1,718 computers valued at Rs. 365 million, 575 photocopy machines worth Rs. 129 million, speed detection devices worth Rs. 45 million and 1,750 uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units valued at Rs. 17 million.

Officials said the new equipment is expected to enhance operational efficiency and improve public service delivery by providing police officers with improved technological and physical resources.

The investment is intended to further strengthen law enforcement and public safety while facilitating smoother administrative and investigative functions within the Police Department.

Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, retired Senior Deputy Inspector General Ravi Seneviratne, and other senior officials were also present at the event. (Newswire)
