Sri Lanka has joined more than 100 states and international organizations in signing a joint statement condemning Israel’s unilateral measures in the occupied West Bank and rejecting annexation, according to an updated list of signatories released by the Palestinian Mission to the United Nations.
Sri Lanka was not among the 85 United Nations member states initially announced by the Palestinian Mission as signatories to the statement. However, in a subsequently updated list shared on social media, Sri Lanka appears among several additional countries that have since joined the declaration.
The joint statement strongly condemns what it describes as unilateral Israeli decisions aimed at expanding Israel’s unlawful presence in the West Bank, stating that such measures are contrary to Israel’s obligations under international law and must be immediately reversed.
It underlines strong opposition to any form of annexation and reiterates rejection of measures aimed at altering the demographic composition, character and status of Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem.
The signatories reaffirm their commitment to international law, relevant United Nations resolutions and the two-state solution, under which Israel and Palestine would live side by side in peace and security within secure and recognized borders based on the 1967 lines.
More than 100 states, along with the League of Arab States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the European Union, have endorsed the updated statement. (Newswire)
