
Public Security Minister Ananda Wijayapala today provided an update in Parliament today (20) on the investigation into the double murder of a lawyer and his wife in Akuregoda.
In a special statement, the Minister said investigators have identified one of the suspected gunmen and a driver believed to have provided transportation in connection with the incident.
According to the Minister, the suspected shooter is believed to have carried out the attack using a revolver. Authorities have also identified the individual who allegedly transported the gunmen to a lodging house prior to the shooting.
The Minister further stated that vehicles believed to be linked to the crime have been recovered during the investigation. One vehicle thought to have been used by the assailants to reach the scene was later found burnt in the Baddegama area, while another vehicle suspected to have been used to transport firearms was discovered abandoned in Kottawa.
Police investigations are ongoing to apprehend the identified suspects and to gather further information related to the incident. (NewsWire)
