Arun Hemachandra departed on an official visit to the Republic of Korea from Feb. 21 to 28, leading a delegation aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation with a focus on foreign employment, job promotion and skills development.
During the visit, the delegation is scheduled to hold discussions with the Human Resources Development Service of Korea, the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business, and South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Meetings are also planned with chief executive officers and human resource managers in Busan, Daegu and Ansan.
A central feature of the visit will be a series of job promotion programmes designed to connect Korean employers directly with skilled Sri Lankan workers under the Employment Permit System.
According to the Deputy Foreign Minister, the engagements aim to expand employment quotas and opportunities for Sri Lankan workers, strengthen employer confidence, align training and language competency with industry demand, and improve recruitment efficiency and transparency through government-to-government mechanisms.
The delegation will also undertake factory visits to gain a better understanding of workplace environments and promote sustainable, long-term employment partnerships.
In addition, a Consular Mobile Service will be conducted in Changwon to provide documentation and welfare services to Sri Lankans residing outside Seoul. Community meetings are also planned in Changwon, Daegu and Wando to engage directly with Sri Lankan workers and address their concerns. (Newswire)
