The Ministry of Agriculture on Friday (20) launched “Maize Stock”, an online information system and web application designed to improve the management of maize demand and supply in the country. The launch was led by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Resources, Namal Karunaratne.

The platform provides accurate data on maize stocks and supports data-driven decisions on imports and distribution. Farmers can monitor market demand for their harvests and secure fair prices, while stock collectors and food manufacturers can track available quantities and plan operations efficiently.

At the launch event, Deputy Minister Karunaratne said: “This system brings transparency to the maize sector and ensures that both farmers and consumers are protected through decisions based on accurate data. Farmers, rural stock collectors, and industry players are encouraged to register on the platform to access its full benefits.”

Officials say the system will help policymakers protect local farmers, prevent unnecessary imports, and save foreign exchange by providing reliable information on domestic production. (NewsWire)
