Pakistan cricket team face a difficult route to the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after their two-wicket defeat to England cricket team in the Super 8 stage.
England’s win took them to four points from two matches, confirming their place in the semi-finals. Pakistan remain on one point from two games and must now rely on multiple favourable outcomes.
Pakistan have one Super 8 match remaining — against Sri Lanka on February 28 — and even a victory may not guarantee qualification.
Semi-final qualification scenarios:
• Pakistan must defeat Sri Lanka. A loss or washout will eliminate them immediately.
• If Pakistan beat Sri Lanka, they will move to three points
• If New Zealand win both of their remaining matches, New Zealand will qualify automatically.
• If Sri Lanka win both of their remaining matches, they will qualify automatically.
• If New Zealand win only one game and finish on three points, the semi-final spot will be decided by Net Run Rate (NRR) if Pakistan beat Sri Lanka.
With England already through, the second semi-final berth from the group remains open for all 3 teams. (Newswire)
