Sri Lankan authorities have arrested a 35-year-old former soldier accused of plotting a gruesome retaliatory murder against an undercover informant involved in a multi-million dollar narcotics bust. The suspect, a legally discharged member of the Sri Lanka Army and resident of Yakkalamulla, was taken into custody while hiding in the Ratnapura area.
The assassination plot was reportedly hatched in response to a major police operation on November 12 last year in the Kirinda–Andagala Wella coastal region. That raid, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rohan Olugala, resulted in the seizure of “ice” (crystal methamphetamine) valued at approximately 350 million rupees and the arrest of seven suspects. To execute the bust, police had utilized a relative of a local officer as an undercover informant.
According to investigators from the Western Province North Crimes Division, the informant’s identity was eventually compromised, leading organized crime figures to order his death. The arrested gunman confessed that the plan involved abducting the informant from his home using a vehicle modified to resemble a police jeep. The traffickers allegedly intended to murder and decapitate the informant, then dump his head in the garden of ASP Olugala’s private residence as an act of intimidation.
Police identified the mastermind behind the plot as an organized criminal known as “Angoda Priyankara.” The suspect told investigators that Priyankara had promised to provide additional accomplices to assist with the transport and disposal of the victim’s head following the execution. Authorities stated that investigations are ongoing. (NewsWire)
