Afternoon showers are expected in some parts of Sri Lanka today, while mainly fair weather will prevail over the other areas of the island, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Showers or thundershowers are likely at a few places in the Southern province, and in the Ratnapura and Monaragala districts after 2.00 pm.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western and Northwestern provinces and in the Anuradhapura, Galle, Matara, Monaragala, Mannar and Vavuniya districts in the morning.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota during the evening or night.

Winds will be North-easterly in the sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Hambantota via Batticaloa. Winds will be northwesterly or variable in the other sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be 20-40 kmph.

The sea areas around the island will be moderate. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
