Police media reports state that Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers have departed Sri Lanka to bring back underworld figure ‘Podi Lassie,’ who was arrested in India.

‘Podi Lassie,’ identified as a member of an underworld gang and a drug trafficker, was arrested in Mumbai, India, on January 16 last year.

At the time, Police sources said that Interpol had officially informed Sri Lankan security authorities regarding the arrest.

On December 09, 2025, “Podi Lassie” was released on bail by the Balapitiya Magistrate’s Court under strict conditions.

However, Sri Lanka Police had uncovered that “Podi Lassie” had fled the country in violation of the bail conditions imposed on him and that he was hiding in India.

Thereafter, the Acting IGP directly shared information with the Indian Police, leading to his arrest, while measures were taken for his swift extradition. (Newswire)
