Abdullah Almutairi has returned as Head Coach of the Sri Lanka Senior National Football Team, beginning his second tenure in charge following the completion of his previous contract period.

The Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) confirmed the reappointment after discussions and mutual agreement between Almutairi and FFSL President Jaswar Umar.

The federation described the move as a continuation of the technical direction established during his first spell, noting that the decision brings stability at an important stage of Sri Lanka’s international campaign.

During his initial tenure, Almutairi oversaw several notable international victories and introduced greater tactical structure and discipline to the national side. His period in charge was also associated with improved player professionalism and a rise in Sri Lanka’s FIFA rankings.

Under his guidance, the team adopted a more structured preparation system and modern tactical approach, contributing to measurable improvements in overall performance.

The Sri Lanka Senior National Team is scheduled to resume centralized training in the third week of March 2026 as preparations begin for their upcoming AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers fixture.

Sri Lanka will face Chinese Taipei on March 30, 2026, in what is set to be the final group-stage match of the qualification campaign.

Almutairi is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka within the next two weeks following the completion of Ramadan. (Newswire)
